    The Harold K.L Castle Foundation, Hawai`i Community Foundation, Daniel K. Inouye Institute, Hawai`i Pacific Health and Kamehameha Schools is sponsoring “Leveling the Playing Field, Helping Poor Children to Succeed: A Conversation with Geoffrey Canada,” founder of the Harlem Children’s Zone.     We are pleased to welcome staff from the DOE to present an update on their School-Based Medicaid Program. HE`E has also been participating in SCR81, a Senate Concurrent Resolution that requests the establishment of a working group to examine how the DOE can maximize Medicaid reimbursement for support services offered to eligible students during school hours.     The September 16, 2018 Star Advertiser Insights column provided two views on the Education Funding Constitutional Amendment Ballot; a “Yes” commentary by HSTA’s President Corey Rosenlee, and a “No”commentary by Ray L’Heureux, former Assistant Superintendent of the Department of Education, and Randall Roth, Professor Emeritus of Law at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa. In order to provide a balanced view on the measure, we would like to present both views at the next HE`E Meeting on Tuesday, October 9, 2018.

    Along with HSTA’s Government Relations Specialist Mitzie Higa to speak in support, we have also invited former Assistant Superintendent Ray L’Heureux to speak in opposition of the measure. The structure of the meeting will be as follows:

    HE`E is pleased to have the Education Institute of Hawaii (EIH) present about their financial analysis tool at the July 10 Planning Meeting. EIH is partnering with EduAnalytics, LLC, a consulting and professional services practice specializing in finance and technology.  EIH has recently requested data from the HIDOE to support a  demonstration pilot using the financial tool that puts financial analysis into the hands of front-line decision-makers to enhance transparency and public engagement.
