    HE`E has been invited by HIDOE to provide input on the Phase 3 (Feedback on Benchmarks & Metrics) portion of their 2030 Promise Plan development project. During Phase 3, HIDOE would like to get our ideas and suggestions on how “we assess performance and how we measure success” over the coming years. We realize that that the time frame is very short, but if you are available, please join us for this important discussion.  We will incorporate some of the ideas generated at the October 8, 2019 Planning Meetin on this topic. .

    Please join us for a discussion about the HIDOE School Performance Results for the 2018-2019 School Year. At the October 3, 2019 Board of Education (BOE) General Business Meeting (GBA), a presentation of the results will be given, see link here, and tentatively, the DOE/BOE are in the process of scheduling a Data Retreat, in which explantation of the data will be provided, and also a session where community members may ask questions and communicate with HIDOE staff. The Planning Meeting will give us an opportunity for formulate our own questions around the results.

    We are pleased to have a presentation on AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at our next HE`E Planning Meeting. AVID is a nonprofit that changes lives by helping schools shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach to teaching and learning. Nationwide, AVID trains 80,000 educators annually to close the opportunity gap, so we can prepare all students for college, careers, and life. In Hawaii AVID partners with 110 public schools and trains 500+ educators at our Hawaii summer training. AVID also provides complex area and site based professional learning opportunities.

    Annette Murray is the AVID Hawaii Program Manager and will be leading the presentation. She lives in Kaneohe with her husband and twins, who attend public school. She has worked in K-12.

    Parking is available at neighboring parking lots (Whole Foods and Ward Village Shops parking lots). In addition, Impact Hub HNL parking is located on Kawaiahao behind the main entrance on Queen Street. Parking is available M-F from 6am-8:30pm. After you park, walk toward Queen St., enter through the “Commercial Plaza” entrance, and take the elevator to the first floor. Validated parking will be provided.

    HIDA also has an upcoming workshop featuring clinician, developmental cognitive neuroscientist and educator Joanna Christodoulou, EdD. Please see flyer here

    On May 14th, HE`E members were able to meet with HIDOE’s State Superintendent, Dr. Christina Kishimoto and her team, discussing the Department’s next 10-year Strategic Plan.
