As a follow up to our lunch discussion with Stephen Schatz last month, HE’E is delighted to be hosting a community forum to learn about the Hawaii Growth Model and also discuss and give feedback to Hawaii’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver. The event will take place Thursday July 19, 2012 from 1:00-4:00pm at the Ala Moana Hotel. The Growth Model is a major component of Hawaii’s Flexibility Waiver. Consultation with stakeholders which includes the community is an essential part of the Wavier application. We are thrilled to be included in the process.
Growth Model data are a significant departure from strictly using proficiency data to gauge a school’s progress, as they show students’ growth over time compared to students with similar academic backgrounds. We are pleased to have trainers from Colorado where this Growth Model was first developed present to HE’E members. Growth Model Presentation and Q&A will be from 1:00-3:00pm.
The roundtable discussion about the ESEA Flexibility Waiver is a great opportunity for the community to learn more about the four major principles of the Waiver as well as give valuable input and feedback on these areas. Members of the DOE who are content specialists will be present to share information and answer questions. Roundtable discussion will be from 3:00-4:00pm.
This is a HE’E community meeting and you are welcome to bring other members of your organization, colleagues, parents and community members who are interested in this topic. We ask that you please have them RSVP so we have adequate space. Please join us for this exciting event!
