Resource materials, light refreshments, lunch, and parking stipend for all participants will be provided.
Teachers are invited to participate in the upcoming seminar hosted by Project Citizen, a portfolio-based civic education program that promotes competent and responsible youth participation in local and state government, the actions of civic character and citizen engagement. The format for the day is as follows:
Part 1 “Democracy? What’s that?” Foundation, framework, and fundamentals of democracy
Part 2 “Who Cares?” Resources, alliances, collaborations, and initiatives available
Part 3 “Making Democracy Real” Application Strategies for curriculum and the classroom
Project Citizen and all other programs presented offer performance-based curriculum that addresses the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards in Social Studies and Language Arts.
In light of the possible changes to the Social Sciences credits for high school graduation, this seminar will offer support and enrichment to teachers wishing to fulfill the civic mission of education through any content area.
